COCOON CARE

Silk is sometimes seen as difficult to clean and care for, but this isn’t necessarily true.

Silk contains natural anti-bacterial properties, which means it requires far less care that alternatives such as down or synthetics.

Please read through the points below to ensure your silk products are kept in pristine condition.

Duvet and Pillow Care

Silk contains natural anti-bacterial properties, thus the silk floss inside the duvet / pillow should not need to be washed or cleaned.

Ensure that duvet covers and pillowcases are used to keep your duvets and pillows clean.
Duvets and pillows can be aired outside out of direct sunlight every few months to keep them fresh.

Should you spill on the duvet, the area can be spot cleaned using a gentle detergent (not containing bleach, enzymes, brighteners or fabric softeners) and cold water. Ensure the detergent is rinsed out thoroughly with plenty of water. Gently pat the duvet to remove excess water. Do not wring the area.Leave the duvet to dry naturally. The silk may need to be gently pulled within the casing to “refluff” the area washed.

The casing of pillows and duvets can be removed and washed (see silk linen care below).

Please be careful as silk can get caught in the zipper of our silk pillowcases.

Do not wash the entire product. The duvets and pillows are not machine washable.

Please do NOT dry clean the duvets and pillows. Dry-cleaning chemicals can cause the silk floss to become brittle.

Silk Linen Care

Your silk linen can be machine washed with similar fabrics in cold water on a delicate cycle.

The lowest and shortest spin cycle should be used.

Use a gentle detergent that does not contain bleach, enzymes, brighteners or fabric softeners.

If possible, use a wash bag, which allows the water and detergent to freely flow in and out.

Add half a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle to dissolve any traces of soap residue.

Do not oversoak your silk linen and do not wring to remove any excess water.

Do not leave the linen in the washing machine for long periods after the cycle is finished, as this will result in heavy wrinkling and may affect the silk shape.

Hang to dry out of direct sunlight. Do not machine dry.

Iron on the inside of the product on medium heat using steam.

Please be aware that sharp toenails and cracked heels can pill the silk. Ensure that the same end of the linen is placed at the bottom of the bed after each wash.
